Freetown, Sierra Leone | 10 April 2025: The Republic of Sierra Leone today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Hecate Global Renewables (HGR), and Africa50 to develop 100 MW of Renewable Energy projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (“BESS”).
[pdf] The 100 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant integrated with a 250 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project will be delivered by U.S.-based Energy America, and its regional subsidiary EA Astrovolt will serve as lead developer and execution partner.
[pdf] The project, considered the world's largest solar-storage project, will install 3.5GW of solar photovoltaic capacity and a 4.5GWh battery storage system. The project has commenced in November 2024.
