The government of Chile will launch a bill this year to procure large-scale energy storage systems for commissioning in 2026 totalling US$2 billion of investment, on top of 5GWh already being sought for 2027-28.
[pdf] It is reported that this solar + storage project, known as Quillagua, includes 221MW of solar photovoltaic capacity and a 1.2GWh battery energy storage system, capable of providing 200MW of continuous peak shaving power for 6.2 hours.
[pdf] Independent power producer (IPP) Verano Energy has closed a US$204 million financing for a 83MW/660MWh solar-plus-storage project in Chile. Located in the northern region of Atacama, the Domeyko Solar + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is currently under construction.
